This particular example commemorates the Guyaspace visitor experience at the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana — the primary European launch facility and the site from which Ariane, Soyuz, and Vega missions have departed since the early 1970s.

Kourou was selected for the launch site in 1964 partly because of its proximity to the equator, which provides a meaningful velocity advantage for geostationary orbit missions.
