Fort de Vaux was the second of the two major Verdun forts to fall to German forces in 1916, its garrison holding out for seven days without water before surrender — the carrier pigeons used to call for relief became among the most cited episodes of the entire battle. The 0 Euro souvenir program, administered through licensed regional distributors and printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire to genuine euro security specifications, has issued hundreds of such notes since 2015.
