Slovenia has a claim to genuine significance in beekeeping history: Anton Janša, an 18th-century Carniolan beekeeper, was appointed the first official teacher of beekeeping at the Habsburg court in Vienna, and the Carniolan honeybee remains one of the most widely exported bee subspecies in the world.
