The 0 euro souvenir note program, administered through regional cultural institutions and printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire, has issued hundreds of site-specific pieces since around 2015 — none are legal tender, all are sold at face profit to the issuing body. The Fondation Œuvre Notre-Dame is the organization historically responsible for the upkeep and restoration of Strasbourg's cathedral, a role it has held in various forms since the medieval period. That institutional continuity is the only thing distinguishing this piece from a tourist novelty.
