The Fondation Œuvre Notre-Dame is the organization historically responsible for the upkeep and restoration of Strasbourg's cathedral, a role it has held in various forms since the medieval period. That institutional continuity is the only thing distinguishing this piece from a tourist novelty.
Strasbourg's cathedral was the tallest building in the world from 1647 to 1874.
