EuroSouvenir notes are legal tender for zero euros — a technically accurate designation that sidesteps counterfeiting law while allowing Oberthur and other security printers to produce collectibles using genuine banknote-grade paper and intaglio printing. This example commemorates the Muséoparc Alésia site near Alise-Sainte-Reine in Burgundy, where the Gallic chieftain Vercingétorix surrendered to Julius Caesar in 52 BC — the defining moment of the Gallic Wars and a defeat that fixed the trajectory of Roman Gaul for four centuries.
The program launched in 2015, with Oberthur Fiduciaire handling production from the outset.
