This example commemorates the Muséoparc Alésia site near Alise-Sainte-Reine in Burgundy, where the Gallic chieftain Vercingétorix surrendered to Julius Caesar in 52 BC — the defining moment of the Gallic Wars and a defeat that fixed the trajectory of Roman Gaul for four centuries.
