One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes issued by Catalan agricultural cooperatives and local syndicates during the Spanish Civil War, when the Republican zone faced acute coin shortages almost immediately after July 1936. The Sindicat Agrícola de Solivella — a small farming cooperative in the Conca de Barberà comarca — printed these fractional notes through Imprenta De Ferrando in Reus, a press that handled emergency paper for numerous local bodies across the region during this period.
Solivella's total population at the time was under a thousand. That a village of that size was issuing its own paper currency speaks directly to how completely the normal monetary supply had broken down.
