0.50 Pesetas Barcelona; Preventori Judicial - Economat

The Preventori Judicial de Barcelona was the city's pre-trial detention facility — what the Spanish administration called a preventorio, holding those awaiting judgment rather than serving sentences. During the Civil War, Catalan institutions at every level, including prisons and their internal canteens, issued their own fractional scrip when small-denomination coinage disappeared from circulation entirely. This note is one of those institutional emergency issues, redeemable only within the economat — the facility's internal commissary.

Circulation was by definition confined to a single building and a captive population. Very few survived.
