Uxentum, the Messapian city in the heel of Italy, struck bronze in its own name during a period when Rome's grip on the region was tightening but not yet total. These tiny issues represent the tail end of Messapian civic coinage before the Social War of 91–87 BC effectively ended autonomous minting across much of southern Italy.
