Laodikeia ad Lycum was refounded by Antiochos II around 261–253 BC and named for his wife Laodike — the same Laodike he later divorced, triggering the Third Syrian War. By the first century BC, the city had grown into one of the wealthiest commercial centers in Phrygia, its prosperity built largely on the textile trade, particularly the glossy black wool specific to the local sheep breed. This civic bronze belongs to that prosperous late Hellenistic municipal coinage, issued under Roman provincial oversight following Pergamon's bequest of the region to Rome in 133 BC.
