Zoo Liberec issues these notes as internal souvenir scrip — a practice common among Czech and Slovak zoos that commission small print runs from Státní Tiskárna Cenin, the state security printer in Prague responsible for the country's official banknotes and stamps. The use of a genuine security printer gives these pieces far more technical credibility than typical tourist ephemera, with proper intaglio or offset work depending on the run.
The Plains Zebra (Equus quagga) has been part of the Liberec collection for decades. Collector interest in zoo scrip of this type has grown steadily, with complete set runs from individual institutions now actively traded among Czech notaphilists.
