Obverse description The elaborate calligraphic toughra of Sultan Mahmud II occupies the central field, enclosed within a three-quarter chain wreath formed by an ornate crescent-shaped border with dotted beading on its inner edge. The toughra, rendered in finely detailed Arabic script, rises prominently above a tied floral finial at its base. The surrounding field is framed by a continuous wreath of stylized floral and foliate motifs encircling the entire coin.
