Reverse description The reverse displays a multi-line Arabic inscription arranged in horizontal bands across the field, enclosed within a wreath and dentilated border. The legend reads 'Sultan ul-barrayn wa khaqan ul-bahrayn es-Sultan ibn es-Sultan,' proclaiming Mahmud I as sovereign of the two lands and ruler of the two seas, son of the sultan. The calligraphy is deeply struck in the naskh-derived Ottoman style, with the lines of text filling the flan in a formal, heraldic composition characteristic of Ottoman billon coinage of this period.
