| Reverse description | A plain, bold cross with extended arms divides the reverse field into four quarters, each containing a quatrefoil or four-pellet rosette motif. The cross reaches nearly to the beaded border, giving the design a strong heraldic character. The circular legend IN·HOC·SIGNO·VINCES ('In this sign, thou shalt conquer') is distributed around the periphery in Latin capitals, interrupted by the arms of the cross. The entire composition is enclosed within a well-defined beaded border. This reverse type is consistent with Portuguese silver coinage of the Prince Regent Pedro period. |
