| Obverse description | The central field bears the Portuguese royal coat of arms, displaying the five escutcheons charged with bezants and bordered by the castles of the quinas, set within an ornate baroque cartouche with elaborate scrollwork and foliate mantling. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown of pronounced baroque form with prominent fleurs-de-lis and arches. A Latin legend encircles the entire design along the toothed border, reading the royal titles of Pedro II. |
