Obverse description Central field displays a simplified crowned Portuguese royal coat of arms, depicted in a highly stylized and schematic manner consistent with cast coinage of the Estado da India. The shield is rendered in low relief with a grid or lattice pattern. The mint mark letters B and A flank the arms to left and right respectively, identifying the Baçaim (Bassein) mint. A domed arch or crown motif surmounts the shield, all contained within a plain raised border.
