Ferdinand I secured Bohemia through dynastic inheritance in 1526, becoming the first Habsburg king of that realm and spending much of his reign negotiating with the Bohemian Estates for revenue to fund wars against the Ottomans. The Kuttenberg mint — known in Czech as Kutná Hora — had been one of Central Europe's most productive silver minting centers since the great Bohemian silver boom of the 13th century, though by the mid-16th century its output was a shadow of its medieval peak.
