Reverse description A prominent floriated cross with a voided quatrefoil center occupies the entire reverse field, its four arms elaborately decorated with fleurs-de-lis and foliate terminals that extend nearly to the inner beaded circle. Each quadrant formed by the cross arms is filled with rich foliate scrollwork and trefoil motifs, characteristic of the ornate Gothic decorative vocabulary of the period. A beaded inner circle borders the design, beyond which the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial characters reads: ✠ MOnETA ⋆ nOVA ⋆ GROSSI ⋆ SAnCTI ⋆ PETRI. The overall composition is symmetrical and finely struck for a hammered issue, reflecting the accomplished die-cutting of the Liège mint workshop.
