Obverse description Central field depicts a stylized eagle displayed, rendered in the bold, somewhat schematic manner characteristic of Mosan Gothic die-cutting of the early fourteenth century. The bird's wings are spread and its body is covered with pellet-like feather detailing, heavily worn but still legible. The design is enclosed within a plain inner circle, surrounded by a beaded border. The peripheral legend in uncial Latin reads ✠ ADVLPVS ⋮ EPVS ⋮ LEOD, identifying Adolf de la Marck as Bishop of Liège. The flan is irregular and slightly chipped, consistent with hammered coinage of this period.
