Reverse description Central field bears the crowned Portuguese royal shield, displaying the characteristic quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross) and the bordure of castles, all beneath a royal crown. The shield is flanked by small ornaments in the field. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, with a continuous circular Latin legend around the outer rim repeating the king's royal titles. The overall style is consistent with hammered silver coinage of the Manueline period.
