Obverse description Central field displays the crowned royal cipher of Manuel I, consisting of an interlaced Gothic 'M' monogram flanked by the mint mark 'P-o' (Porto) on either side. A large royal crown with three visible points surmounts the monogram. The entire device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the circular Latin legend running along the outer margin of the flan in hammered relief.

Reverse description Central field bears the Portuguese royal shield, displaying the traditional quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross) within a decorative border, surmounted by a royal crown.
