Reverse description Central field displays the Portuguese royal shield, featuring the quinas (five escutcheons bearing bezants arranged in a cross pattern) within a pointed Gothic-style shield, framed by a decorative border. The shield is surmounted by a small cross patée at the top. Surrounding the shield is a circular Latin legend invoking divine protection, separated from the central device by a beaded or plain inner circle. The workmanship is typical of hammered silver coinage of the Manueline period, with characteristic irregular strike and slightly off-center placement.
