Obverse description Central field displays a large Gothic crowned capital 'M' monogram, the initial of King Manuel I, surmounted by a royal crown in high relief. Below the monogram appears the mint mark 'P' for Porto, flanked by small pellets or decorative stops. The entire device is surrounded by a circular legend in Latin script reading the king's abbreviated royal titles. The style is characteristic of late medieval Iberian hammered coinage, with a slightly irregular flan typical of the period.
