| Obverse description | Central field bears a large Gothic letter 'Y' (representing the denomination Vintém) surmounted by a royal crown, flanked on each side by the mint mark '•L•' with a small annulet, all contained within a plain inner circle. The design is rendered in the bold, somewhat irregular style characteristic of late 15th-century Portuguese hammered coinage. The surrounding legend, separated from the central device by the beaded inner circle, runs clockwise in Latin. |

| Reverse description | Central field displays the Portuguese royal arms: a shield bearing five escutcheons arranged in a cross, each charged with five roundels (quinas), enclosed within a decorative bordure of castles, all surmounted by a royal crown. The shield is depicted in the angular, heraldic style typical of João II's coinage. An inner beaded circle separates the armorial device from the surrounding Latin legend, which runs clockwise around the periphery of the coin. |
