Reverse description Central field bears the Portuguese royal arms: a shield of quinas (five escutcheons arranged in cross formation, each charged with five roundels) within a decorated escutcheon, surmounted by a royal crown. The shield is set against a plain field and encircled by a beaded or plain inner ring. The surrounding circular legend, in Gothic Latin lettering, records the king's titles including references to Portugal and the Algarves. The overall composition is typical of the late 15th-century Portuguese hammered silver coinage style.
