Obverse description Eagle displayed, facing left, enclosed within a beaded or linear inner circle. Below the eagle, the arms of the City of Lucerne are shown on a square shield, divided per pale, with the left half hatched (representing blue) and the right half plain (representing white). The circumferential legend reads MONETA LVCERN, separated by a cross pattée, all within an outer border.

Reverse description A floriated or budded cross with four arms terminating in trefoil or blooming bud motifs, centrally placed and strongly struck, enclosed within a beaded or linear inner circle. The design is characteristic of late medieval Swiss billon coinage of this denomination. The circumferential legend reading SANCT⁹ + LVDIGARI⁹, invoking Saint Leodegar, the patron saint of Lucerne, appears between the inner and outer borders, separated by a cross.
