Obverse description Central crowned Austrian shield displayed within a six-lobed cartouche occupying the coin's field, the shield bearing the characteristic Austrian barry fessé. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading partially NECNON ARCHIDVCES AVS, referencing the Archduke of Austria title. The design is rendered in the bold, somewhat crude style typical of small hammered copper coinage of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries.
