| Reverse description | Central field features a floriated or budded cross, with four ornate trefoil or pinecone-like terminals radiating from a central boss, executed in low hammered relief. The cross fills the field within a beaded inner circle, a design characteristic of Swiss and South German billon small coinage of the 17th century. The surrounding legend DA PACEM+DOMINE, meaning 'Grant peace, O Lord' in Latin, encircles the design along the outer rim. The lettering is separated by small stars or pellets used as punctuation marks. The irregular flan edges and flat strike are consistent with the hand-hammered production technique of the Basel Mint. |
