| Obverse description | Quartered civic shield of Thann occupying the central field, with the lower-left and upper-right quarters displaying a crosshatched or lozengy pattern and the remaining quarters bearing a fir tree, the traditional emblem of the city. The shield is set within a beaded inner border. The circular Latin legend runs continuously around the periphery, separated from the shield by the beaded ring, with the inscription reading ✠ MONET` NO` TANNENS`, identifying this as the new coinage of Thann. The overall style is characteristic of late medieval Alsatian municipal coinage, struck by hammer on an irregular flan. |

| Reverse description | A large ornate cross pattée or floriated cross dominates the entire reverse field, its four arms expanding broadly toward the beaded inner border and decorated with flared, petal-like terminals. The arms of the cross divide the field into four equal quadrants. The circular Latin legend SALVE. CRVX. SANCTA. encircles the design between the beaded inner border and the outer rim, invoking the holy cross. The execution is bold and deeply struck, consistent with late medieval hammered coinage, with the legend letters showing the characteristic Gothic-influenced majuscule letterforms of Alsatian civic mints of the period. |
