Obverse description Crowned Portuguese royal coat of arms occupying the central field, flanked by the mint letters 'G' to the left and 'A' to the right, denoting the Goa mint. The shield displays the traditional Portuguese royal escutcheon with quinas and castles, surmounted by an ornate crown. The overall design is rendered in the crude, flat style characteristic of cast tin coinage produced at the Goa mint during the reign of José I.
