Reverse description Central field bears the retrograde tamgha of Kangju, possibly with a dot at its centre, serving as the dynastic emblem of the issuing authority. The tamgha is surrounded by a blundered and partially legible Sogdian legend arranged in a circular band around the periphery of the flan. The die workmanship is rough, with the legend showing considerable degradation consistent with a late or degenerate die state.

Additional information

The Kangju were a nomadic confederation controlling the middle Syr Darya region for several centuries, and their coinage remains among the least understood in Central Asian numismatics. The "Wanwan" designation comes from Chinese historiographical sources — the Weishu and Beishi record Wanwan as a Kangju ruling clan, though the precise political relationship between the clan name and these coin-issuing authorities is still debated. The retrograde tamgha on this type is a known diagnostic for the second period classification in Shagalov and Kuznetsov's system, distinguishing it from otherwise similar issues.
