| 裏面の説明 | A bold Nestorian cross (cross pattée type) occupies the central field, with broad, slightly flared arms of roughly equal length. The cross is surrounded by a border of pellets arranged around the circumference of the flan, echoing the decorative scheme of the obverse. The surface shows typical die wear and flan irregularities consistent with hammered provincial bronze coinage of the early medieval period. No legend or inscription is present. |

Vardanzi was a minor civic mint operating in Sogdia during the period of profound political fragmentation that followed the collapse of Sasanian power in Central Asia. The city issued its own autonomous bronze coinage in the decades before Arab expansion rendered such local monetary independence largely obsolete. Almost nothing is documented about the administrative structure behind these issues, and the attribution itself rests on a small corpus of findspot evidence rather than any surviving textual record.
