The device is surrounded by a border of pellets or a dotted circle near the rim. A Sogdian inscription encircles or accompanies the central emblem, reading 'pny c`cynk xwb' (translating as 'Coin of the Chach Ruler'). The strike is irregular and the flan is slightly ragged at the edges, consistent with hand-hammered production methods of the 7th–9th century Transoxiana region. |
