The tamgha is surrounded by a fragmentary and largely illegible Sogdian inscription in the outer field, rendered in the cursive Sogdian script. The legend, though uncertain, likely contains a royal name or title following conventional Sogdian coinage formulae. The overall design is crudely struck on an irregular bronze flan, consistent with provincial coinage of the Ikhshidid rulers of Sogdia in the late 6th to early 7th century. |
