Additional information

The Principality of Chach occupied the Tashkent oasis in what is now Uzbekistan, sitting across the Sogdian trade corridor where coinage circulated as much by commercial necessity as by political authority. These small bronzes were issued by local rulers whose names, in most cases, were never recorded in any surviving written source — the "Nirtanak" designation itself derives from Sogdian script readings that remain contested among Central Asian numismatists. Sh&K 266 represents one of the more modestly attested die groupings in Shagalov and Kuznetsov's typology, distinguished from related types purely by the absence of an accompanying symbol.
