The Kangju were a nomadic confederacy controlling the Syr Darya basin whose coinage remains among the least-documented in Central Asian numismatics. Sh&K#24 falls within the third period classification established by Shagalov and Kuznetsov, a typological framework built almost entirely from excavation lots rather than documented hoards, which means precise date ranges within this broad four-century span are largely inferential. The tamgha — a clan or dynastic mark — is the primary diagnostic feature distinguishing issues within this series, more reliable than portraiture for attribution purposes.
