Kotalingala, an early urban site in the Telangana region, produced some of the earliest indigenous coinage in the Deccan. The Sri Satakarni issues from this mint predate — or run concurrent with — the better-documented Satavahana dynastic coinage, and the political relationship between the Kotalingala authority and the emerging Satavahana power remains genuinely unresolved in scholarship. Whether Sri Satakarni here names a local ruler or an early Satavahana king is still contested.
