Tamaniu was one of several Iberian mints operating under Roman provincial oversight during the final century BC, producing bronze coinage that circulated alongside Roman issues as Rome steadily absorbed Hispania Citerior. The edge inscription on this type is the distinguishing feature that separates it from otherwise closely related Iberian bronzes — a minting choice rare enough in the peninsula that scholars have debated whether it reflects local tradition or a specific administrative directive.

The ACIP and CNH references place this firmly within the contested attribution literature of Hispano-Roman coinage, where mint identifications were revised significantly in the late twentieth century.
