Belikio was an Iberian tribal people settled in the upper Ebro valley, and their bronze coinage belongs to the broader phenomenon of indigenous Celtiberian minting that flourished under Roman provincial tolerance following the conquest of Hispania. Rome permitted — and in some respects encouraged — local bronze issues to handle small-denomination exchange that Roman silver couldn't efficiently serve. The type catalogued under ACIP 1433 and SNG Copenhagen 321 represents one of the better-documented Celtiberian municipal issues, though the precise civic center of Belikio remains archaeologically debated, with Belchite in Aragon proposed as the most plausible candidate.
