| Obverse description | Bare head of Melqart facing left, the deity clad in a lion's skin headdress with the pelt knotted at the throat, a club visible over the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in a bold, somewhat provincial Iberian style typical of Hispano-Punic bronze coinage. A Lusitanian or Iberian legend runs around the periphery of the field. The flan is irregular and the surfaces show the characteristic roughness of a locally struck hammered issue. |
