| Beschrijving voorzijde | Laureate head of Apollo facing right, rendered in a somewhat archaic Sicilian style with broad facial features and wavy hair bound by a laurel wreath. The portrait is set within an unadorned field, occupying the majority of the flan. The surface displays a patina of green and brown corrosion consistent with ancient bronze coinage. |

Kalakte was a minor Sikeliot town on Sicily's northern coast whose coins are rare enough that the cataloging references for this type disagree on precise attribution details. The city's minting activity falls within the turbulent aftermath of the Second Punic War, when Roman consolidation of Sicily was forcing small civic mints either into dormancy or into one final burst of local bronze production before Roman monetary authority made them redundant. This piece almost certainly belongs to that terminal phase.
