正面描述 Stylized male head facing left, rendered in the distinctive Aquitanian Celtic artistic tradition with flowing, rope-like locks radiating from the cranium in characteristic La Tène style. The facial features are schematically rendered, with a prominent eye indicated by a central pellet and sweeping curved lines defining the hair mass. The overall treatment is highly abstract, reflecting the indigenous Gaulish engraving conventions of the late Republican period.

背面描述 A horse leaping to the right in dynamic posture, accompanied by a charioteer or driver figure above; a small severed human head is depicted beneath the rump of the horse, a motif common in Gaulish coinage of the Santoni tribal region. The design elements are rendered in a schematic, abstract La Tène style typical of Gallia Celtica small silver issues of the mid-first century BC. No legend is present.

附加信息

The Santoni occupied the territory around modern Saintes in western Gaul, and their small fractional issues — produced in the decades immediately preceding Caesar's conquest — represent a monetary system under severe pressure. Billon at this weight is barely silver at all; the alloy degradation in late Gaulish fractions like this one reflects both economic stress and a collapsing access to Iberian silver sources as Roman commercial networks tightened around the region.

DT 3701 remains sparsely documented, with attribution to the Santoni debated in some literature.
