| Beschrijving keerzijde | A detailed panoramic view of the city of Gdańsk (Danzig) occupies the central field, depicting the skyline with numerous towers, spires, and fortifications rendered in fine relief. Above the cityscape, radiating sun rays emanate from a cloud or glory in which the Hebrew Tetragrammaton (יהוה) is inscribed, symbolising divine blessing upon the city. In the lower portion, the Gdańsk civic arms — a shield bearing two crosses and a crown — are displayed within a laurel wreath, flanked by the divided date 16-47 and the mint-master's initials G-R. The circumferential Latin legend reads EX AURO SOLIDO CIVITAS GEDANENSIS FIERI F, translating as 'The City of Gdańsk caused this to be made from solid gold.' The composition is enclosed by a beaded inner border and reflects the sophisticated engraving tradition of the Royal Prussian mint. |
