| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of King Jan III Sobieski facing right, wearing a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the back and classical drapery over the left shoulder. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the facial features and hair. The circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy along the rim: IOANNES III D.G.REX POL.M.D.L.R.PR., identifying the king as John III, by the grace of God King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, Russia, Prussia. |
