Aanvullende informatie

The Toruń trojak of 1764–65 was among the first coins struck under Poniatowski, who had been placed on the throne largely through the intervention of Catherine II and the backing of Russian troops still stationed on Commonwealth soil at the time of his election. The mint at Toruń — one of the few functioning with any reliability in this period — was pressed into service almost immediately, partly to assert the new reign's administrative coherence at a moment when that coherence was genuinely in doubt.

Billon coinage of this type circulated hard and wore fast. Survivors in anything above Fine are uncommon.
