Obverse description Armored bust of King Stefan Batory facing right, wearing a jeweled crown, with a short beard and mustache rendered in fine detail. The king is depicted in plate armor with a beaded collar visible at the truncation. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading STEP D G REX PO (Stephanus Dei Gratia Rex Poloniae), interrupted at the top by a cross pattee. The portrait is boldly struck in high relief, characteristic of the Olkusz mint's output in this period.
