Obverse description Central field features the elaborate interlaced royal cypher of Stanisław August Poniatowski (SAR — Stanislaus Augustus Rex), composed of the conjoined letters S and A surmounted by a royal crown with ornate fleurons and pearled arches. The date 1765 is divided across the field, with '17' to the left and '65' to the right of the monogram. The design is rendered in a bold baroque style with no peripheral legend, the monogram occupying nearly the full flan.

Additional information

The Gdańsk trojak sat at an uncomfortable intersection of politics: the city operated as a semi-autonomous royal city within the Commonwealth, maintaining its own minting rights even as Warsaw increasingly sought to standardize coinage across the realm. Poniatowski's 1765 issues from Gdańsk were produced under that uneasy arrangement, with the city's mint essentially operating on its own terms while nominally acknowledging royal authority.

The Iger G.65 reference places this among the documented varieties catalogued by Henryk Igersheim — distinctions between Gdańsk trojaki of this reign often hinge on subtle differences in the city's arms rendering and punctuation within the legend.
