The Olkusz mint had a troubled run under Sigismund III. Chronic underfunding, disputes with mint lessees, and inconsistent silver supplies from the nearby Olkusz mines — which were themselves in prolonged decline through the 1590s — produced some of the least consistent trojak coinage of the period. Dies were reused aggressively, and off-metal or underweight pieces from this facility drew repeated complaints to the Sejm.
The mint closed definitively in 1601, making this decade its final chapter.
