Additional information

The Lublin mint operated only sporadically under Sigismund III, and its trojak output from 1599 is notably thin compared to the dominant Kraków and Olkusz productions of the same reign. The Lewart arms — belonging to the Firlej family — appear here because Jan Firlej held the mint lease, a common arrangement in Commonwealth coinage whereby noble lessees branded the coinage with their heraldry as a form of contractual attestation. The IF initials are his.

Lublin-minted trojaks from this year are scarcer than their Kraków counterparts and frequently show softer detail on the reverse due to die fatigue from short but intensive production runs.
